Coastal Big Sur Elopement Photos

Famous for its rugged coastline of beautiful cliffs diving into the ocean, Big Sur is an absolute must-visit destination in California. It is also a drop-dead GORGEOUS destination to exchange your vows, and is one of my favorite places in California to elope in.

A Big Sur elopement can either be low-key and relaxing, OR an exciting adventurous one. With redwoods on one side of Highway 1 and beautiful cliffs and ocean on the other, there is so much opportunity to choose your own adventure. Pack a picnic to enjoy on the cliffs while watching the waves crash below you, or hike one of the many trails weaving throughout the redwood forest. Time permitting, you could even include both in one day - it’s definitely doable and always so fun to switch things up!

Danielle and Jeff are currently stationed in Monterey, CA, just minutes away from the northern end of Big Sur, which extends 90 miles down to the south. To say I’m envious is a major understatement :’) With miles of beautiful coastline, it’s hard to pick a favorite spot in Big Sur. Although to be honest, you can’t really go wrong with anywhere along the Big Sur coast. D+J explored a beautiful section just off the highway, but that still afforded privacy away from any curious passerbys. Considering that this was in the middle of summer (i.e. a very popular time to visit), it was actually really surprising that we had this place almost entirely to ourselves.

I guess it depends on the person, but I especially love how the crashing ocean waves drowns out all other noise around you - whether it be other people, or cars on the highway. If you’re exchanging vows with each other here, it’s very likely that the only other person able to hear your vows is your partner! How intimate and special is that? :’)

Below are some of my favorites from D+J’s evening on the Big Sur coast. We climbed on rocks and watched the sunset, and it was nothing short of magical.
